On September 22nd, 2008 hundreds of protestors descended upon the Del Mar Fairgrounds to participate in a public hearing concerning the construction of the Cal Trans Toll Road through the Trestles State Park. Surfers and environmentalists petitioned, gave speeches, and held a rally outside in opposition to the construction of the Toll Road through one of the last pristine natural state parks located along the Southern California coast. Surfrider Foundation, Wild Coast, Sierra Club, and many other environmental organizations participate and organized the Save Trestles Rally.
